Our nation has lost a true patriot and an exemplary citizen. The news media has lost a committed truth-teller who epitomized journalistic responsibility. Interfaith Alliance has lost a proud supporter and respected Honorary Chairman of the Board. I have lost an inspiring hero and a dear personal friend... Read more - Welton Gaddy
A voice of integrity and civility has been silenced with the recent death of Walter Cronkite. In an often fast-paced and tumultuous world Walter Cronkite gave us counsel and wisdom to understand our world one day at a time and more than that comfort and strength to face tomorrow. He reminded us nightly "That's the way it is" and with his unflappable reporting and humility somehow we stood taller in the brightness of the day and found comfort in the darkness of the night and the unknown... As a baby boomer, I associate Walter Cronkite with the major news stories and events of my life: JFK, the space program, the Vietnam War, Watergate. His deep, noble voice and thoughtful perspective were a far cry from so many self-absorbed so-called journalists on the air today. I'm glad he was a supporter of the Interfaith Alliance. We will miss him. - Terri Ring
We have lost one of the "Greats" of our time with the passing of Walter Cronkite. He was, without doubt, one of the greatest journalists ever to grace the airwaves with honest, faithful and unbiased reporting of he news. Had he ever chosen to run for political office, he would have been elected to any position he might have sought. We may never see his like again and mourn his passing from the scene. He will be truly missed, both within and outside his chosen profession. - Richard White
I'm too young to have gotten the chance to get my news form Walter Cronkite, but lucky enough to be raised by people who taught he the importance of his way of reading it. His humanity and lust for life will be greatly missed. - Kathryn Dennett
I became a member and supporter of Interfaith Alliance because I had read that Mr. Cronkite had learned about the organization, believed in its objectives, and wanted to support it himself. - Donald Rettmann
What I remember about Walter Cronkite was as he entered our homes each night with the nightly news, he became our best friend. As our friend he spoke the truth, even when we may not want to hear it clearly. He was honest, compassionate and trustworthy. He was talking to each of us very personally and because of that I felt he was friends of all of the USA. You will be missed Walter, our one true and loyal friend! - Paul Freeman
I remember Walter Cronkite from my youth in reporting of the nightly news, and in particular the 1969 lunar landing. Although not old enough to appreciate it at the time, I realize the personal risk he took by his the stance on Vietnam in the late 60s. It took intelligence, diligence, and courage to have not only made that conclusion, but to go public with it. Those qualities gave credibility to him, and with that to most any cause he championed, with The Interfaith Alliance being just one of them. - Mark DeMichiei
Walter Cronkite brought decency, honesty, professionalism and respect to journalsim and the news. We respected him because he told the truth, "the way it is." Walter was a man with uncomprising principles for his profession and to this nation. Such a man may not pass our way again. - Allan Frenkel
Walter is the reason I joined the Interfaith Alliance! Nobody ever did the news as well as he did. A Truly non-replaceable REAL journalist! I wish I cold have met him and chatted with him. He was unique and an inspiration to all in TV journalism who followed him. - Nancy Cagle
First my condolences go out to the Cronkite family. Mr. Cronkite was such a huge tradition for me that I never ever thought of him as "political" or filled with religiosity--he was above all of those things. Then almost accidentally I read of his support and involvement with the Interfaith Alliance and learned of his concerns for America that were similiar to mine. Somehow that made him more like one of us. To serve on the Board of Directors with him as Honorary Chairman has been an unexpected privilege. My wife and I had the honor of briefly being with him at Annual Walter Cronkite Faith and Freedom Awards Dinners. His genuine interest in our conversation and us will be his legacy for us. We all have been left his treasures of integrity, inspiration and humility. We should not forget to use them. - Marvin Chiles
I first met Walter Cronkite when I was a youth during my first visit to Washington, D.C. He was gracious, kind, helpful, and very interested in our high school group. He made a lasting impression on me which was affirmed time and time again as I watched him sharing the evening news in such a professional and committed way. My memories of the events of the past few decades include him. I have been fortunate to spend some time with him over the past few years at the Walter Cronkite Faith and Freedom Awards and found him wonderfully personable, insightful, and deeply committed to the work of the Interfaith Allianmce. His ongoing belief in democracy and the importance of an informed public never waned. I join millioons of others in giving thanks for him and holding his family, friends, and nation close in my thoughts and prayers. - Dan Rosemergy

I came to this country in 1964; the only journalist I ever watched was Walter Cronkite. He was the epitome of journalistic rigor and honor. When he was forced to retire it was a sad day for journalism. But it was a proud day when he was named TIA's Honorary Chairman. His was a stellar voice for religious freedom. - Stephanie Campbell
Walter Cronkite, the voice of America, was everyone's father figure, at least he was to me growing up in the 60's. He was the most trusted man in America, the voice of the 20th century, and he broadcast the moon landing and every major event in my lifetime that I can remember. May he rest in peace. - Barbara Singer
I was born in 1941, so I grew up with Walter Cronkite a part of my life, especially as I reached adulthood in the 1960s and 1970s. He was a rock of reliability in what often seemed, in that volatile era, like a sea of sand. I will miss him, and the integrity in news reporting he epitomized. - John Blair`
The World has lost the very "Emblem" of principle and honesty. We have lost many greats as of late, but we are losing the principles that made our society a great one. That is the saddest measure of his loss, that it reminds us of that which we are lacking. We will not see his like again in our lifetime. Godspeed Walter, you helped a nation towards greatness by the simple act of truth and humility. We will sorely miss you..... - Darryl Edwards
Thanks for the memories of excellent reporting! - Rev. Terri Miller
I grew up watching Walter Cronkite. He was my link to the US when I lived overseas and watched a compilation of the week's CBS Evening News at the local consulate. So when I joined the Interfaith Alliance Board, I was thrilled to know we had shared values. And when I became Chair of the board, I was humbled to partner with Walter in this critical work. His life is over; his inspiration only stronger. I wish comfort to his family and to us all. - Jack Moline
Walter Cronkite epitomized all the attributes of a true journalist. He was honest to a fault, transparent in his character, and a man who followed closely in the steps of Jesus. I am greatly saddened at his passing for another and personal reason: Walter and my father were born in the same year, 1916. My father was a simple man of great courage and virtue in his own right. I sorely miss his presence in my life and I do of the great and good man, Walter Cronkite. - Albert Pike
I grew up with Walter. There will never be another Walter Cronkite. May he rest in peace. Wayne Bishop - Wayne Bishop
