Jerry was an attorney by profession, a champion of civil liberties and a nationally active lay leader in the Unitarian Universalist faith movement by devotion.  As the resident lawyer at LEADD, Jerry lent his legal expertise to the program.  He was known to launch into quotes from the founding fathers, much to the delight of any audience gathered around him.  His passion for the First Amendment and his enjoyment in passing along this appreciation were evident at each LEADD program he attended.  With a quick wit and a twinkle in his eyes that infected students and staff alike, Jerry was one of the most thoughtful and funny lawyers I’ve ever met.  In a wheelchair for much of his last few years, many expected him to slow down but with Denny’s driving skills, the two continued to teach a new generation about civic responsibility and impart their appreciation for religious pluralism.  And with a marriage of more than 50 years, the Davidoffs exemplified an epic partnership and love.

A memorial service to celebrate and remember our friend Jerry took place on Saturday, November 28th at 5:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Church in Westport, CT with the Rev. Marta Flanagan and Interfaith Alliance Board member Rev. Olivia Holmes officiating.  Jerry will continue to be missed, but will be very fondly remembered.  The Jerry Davidoff LEADD Legacy Scholarship has been established in Jerry’s memory, and will preserve his passion for and commitment to the First Amendment and religious freedom in America.
