Interfaith Alliance has a network of affiliates across the nation working tirelessly to protect democracy and inclusive religious freedom. Some affiliates have long histories and others are just starting out – but they all focus on the issues that directly affect their local communities. We offer a suite of coaching to equip our affiliates including communications and faith-advocacy training to push back against Christian nationalism and religious extremism. Our goal is to empower our network with the knowledge and tools they need to effect change.
This year, we’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with local organizers in Naples, Florida to launch our newest affiliate: The Interfaith Alliance of Southwest Florida. In the five months since it was established, our members have mobilized to combat creeping Christian nationalism in public schools and rising antisemitism. The affiliate already has more than 200 members enlisted, demonstrating that they will continue to be a force to be reckoned with at this critical moment.
The Interfaith Alliance of Texas is another new affiliate that is on the front lines of fighting for church-state separation and strong, inclusive public schools. When the Texas legislature introduced a bill that would mandate the display of the Ten Commandments in public schools, our members took immediate action and warned that the government has no business dictating one narrow religious viewpoint on students. We celebrated together when the bill failed in the Texas House of Representatives last May. Our affiliate members in Texas have also been leading in the effort to organize Texas chaplains to oppose the new law that would allow public schools to replace licensed school counselors with chaplains.
