Rabbi Jack Moline, president of Interfaith Alliance, condemned a Department of Justice brief in a private employment lawsuit that effectively encourages discrimination against LGBT people:
“Yesterday morning, President Trump targeted transgender Americans for discrimination. Hours later, his Justice Department set about undercutting the civil rights of all LGBT people.
“The new Justice Department brief turns its back on equal rights and promotes legalized discrimination. This is yet another capitulation by this administration to the Religious Right, something that always results in the loss of our civil rights and liberties.
“If the president and his attorney general were truly concerned about justice, they would protect all Americans from discrimination irrespective of sexual orientation or gender identity.”
Interfaith Alliance is a network of people of diverse faiths and beliefs from across the country working together to build a resilient democracy and fulfill America’s promise of religious freedom and civil rights not just for some, but for all. We mobilize powerful coalitions to challenge Christian nationalism and religious extremism, while fostering a better understanding of the healthy boundaries between religion and government. We advocate at all levels of government for an equitable and just America where the freedoms of belief and religious practice are protected, and where all persons are treated with dignity and have the opportunity to thrive.
