Supreme Court Rules Against Trump’s Attack on Birthright Citizenship

June 30, 2026

Interfaith Alliance welcomes today’s Supreme Court ruling in Trump v. Barbara, striking down President Trump’s executive order attacking birthright citizenship. Today’s decision is a clear victory against the Trump administration’s effort to strip American-born children of a constitutional right that no president has the power to take away.

Birthright citizenship is a bedrock promise of our multi-faith democracy. No president gets to pick and choose which children born in this country belong.

Trump’s executive order was an escalation of his administration’s broader campaign to target immigrant communities and those who stand with them. The Court was right to reject this attempt to turn citizenship into a political weapon.

Interfaith Alliance recommits to defending the dignity and basic rights of all our neighbors. Our work opposing the Trump administration's authoritarian actions includes the Choose Love, Not ICE campaign, challenging the targeting of immigrant communities for political gain. Today, we are glad the Supreme Court chose to uphold the Constitution over this authoritarian effort.

Let’s not forget: The Trump administration’s attempt to close America’s doors to immigrants shuts out people fleeing religious persecution around the world. Our immigration story is also a story of religious freedom.

Supreme Court Rules Against Transgender Students Seeking Equal Access to School Sports

Interfaith Alliance is deeply troubled by today’s Supreme Court rulings in Little v. Hecox and West Virginia v. B.P.J. By upholding Idaho and West Virginia’s bans, the Court has allowed states to exclude transgender students from playing in school sports simply because of who they are.

The report has been repeatedly delayed due to the ongoing lawsuit against the commission filed by Interfaith Alliance and other diverse faith groups, who allege that the commission’s creation and composition is illegal and discriminatory, failing to reflect diverse religious viewpoints.
