People of faith have historically been at the forefront of movements for justice, equality, and democracy, and librarians have historically championed the freedom to read as a cornerstone of inclusive, participatory democracy. The battle over censorship is another moment when we are called to action. Our right to read, like our right to worship, are fundamental freedoms protected by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
When library materials are censored, religious freedom is harmed. If successful, censorship could be used to silence diverse religious voices and traditions, weakening the rich, pluralistic social fabric of our country. Pledge your support today.
People of diverse faith traditions know that caring for our neighbors is not optional. It is a calling. But the current administration is moving to strip away critical protections that ensure transgender and intersex people can access the emergency housing and shelter they need, when they need it most. Public comments are one of the most powerful tools we have to push back. Make yours count before the deadline.
ICE’s cruelty is tearing our country apart. We demand that ICE stop their attacks on our neighbors. We call upon political and religious leaders to show up and speak out against these abuses with a unified voice. Add your name to our petition today.
The NO BAN Act (H.R. 924 / S. 398) is essential legislation that would prevent discriminatory travel bans based on religion or nationality. In recent years, such bans have targeted individuals from Muslim-majority countries, undermining America's core values of religious freedom and equality.
President Trump has given himself emergency powers to take control of Washington, DC. Since Section 740 of the D.C. Home Rule Act was invoked, homeless encampments have been forcibly cleared. ICE is detaining residents. Military-style checkpoints have been established, targeting vulnerable communities and disrupting daily life.
We are a religious freedom nation, not a Christian nation. As Americans who value religious freedom, we demand that Congresswoman Mary Miller do more than just delete her social media posts attacking religious freedom. We demand that she publicly apologize to the Sikh and Muslim communities.
