Interfaith Alliance’s Bus Tour Goes on the Road to Promote the “Sacred” Right to Vote

October 24, 2024

Washington, DC – Interfaith Alliance, a national leader in defending religious freedom and multi-faith democracy, is embarking on a nonpartisan bus tour across six states from October 28th through Election Day on November 5th.

“The Vote is Sacred Bus Tour” will travel from Omaha, Nebraska, through Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania – a part of the country that is deeply engaged in the upcoming election. Along each stop of the route, Interfaith Alliance will host events with local affiliates and faith leaders aiming to increase voter turnout and highlight the role of diverse religious communities in pro-democracy activism. The tour will also promote the role faith communities can play in protecting polling stations and poll workers, as well as sowing trust in our safe, free, and fair elections.

The tour is a counterforce to extremist voices who are attempting to suppress the vote while advocating for a narrow, anti-democratic vision of religious coercion and uniformity. The tour will highlight mainstream religious voices who are out in even greater numbers to promote a free and fair election and a vision for a diverse and kind American future.

The kickoff event in Omaha will take place at Tri-Faith, a unique initiative that brings together a synagogue, church, mosque, and interfaith center on a shared campus. The tour will end on Election Day with a block party in Philadelphia.

“With just days left until Election Day, the stakes for our democracy, civil rights and religious freedom have never been higher,” said Rev. Paul Brandeis Raushenbush, President and CEO of Interfaith Alliance. “Most voters share a vision of our country as a place where people of diverse faiths and beliefs can live equally alongside each other in freedom and peace. This bus tour is a chance to elevate the work of people of faith across these states who are mobilizing in support of inclusive, equitable multi-faith democracy.”

The Interfaith Alliance's “The Vote is Sacred” bus tour will hold public events with local partners and activists in the following cities:

A Victory for Religious Freedom and Public Education

The Senate Parliamentarian just struck a major blow to efforts to undermine public education and erode the separation of religion and government. The proposed national school voucher program, modeled on the so-called Educational Choice for Children Act, has been removed from the Senate’s budget reconciliation package after being ruled in violation of the Byrd Rule.
