Interfaith Alliance Kicks Off Election Efforts Backing Historic Legislation to Protect Democracy

In preparation for the 2024 election, Interfaith Alliance is building a multi-tiered initiative to engage the faith community to ensure a safe, inclusive election. We are mobilizing on multiple fronts, including in the courts, public policy advocacy, voter and candidate education, and poll and social media monitoring.

Historic Legislation to Protect the Vote

On Capitol Hill, Interfaith Alliance was proud to endorse the Freedom to Vote Act, introduced on July 18th by a bicameral group of legislators led by Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock, who included a quote from Interfaith Alliance’s President and CEO in his press release. The Freedom to Vote Act is a historic legislative package built to strengthen our democracy by expanding access to the ballot, modernizing voter registration, stopping anti-voter efforts, preventing election denial tactics, ensuring fair maps, countering big money in politics, and promoting secure elections.

Interfaith Alliance was also pleased to endorse two standalone bills, included as part of the Freedom to Vote Act: the Preventing Election Subversion Act, led by Senator Warnock, and the Democracy Restoration Act led by Senator Cardin and Rep. Jasmine Crockett (TX-30) which will restore felon voting rights. On July 26th, Interfaith Alliance sent an email to every House member’s office in advance of the introduction of the Democracy Restoration Act, urging original cosponsorship.

Mobilizing to Protect our Democracy

Interfaith Alliance will engage in a grassroots campaign over the next several months engaging faith leaders to urge Congress to pass these critical bills. Interfaith Alliance is also proud to have recently signed on as an official partner of the 2023 Election Protection Coalition, administered by the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. This coalition supports election protection initiatives including poll and social media monitoring and 866 Our Vote which provides voter information resources and election protection hotline.
